Featured speaker: Courtney Brooks, “Local to Global: Your Role as a Citizen Diplomat in the Heartland”
Courtney will share information on the history of international exchange programs in KC and ways the local community is invited to host global leaders, support high school students, and take part in regular conversations with changemakers from around the world, focused on designing a sustainable future, fighting for human rights, and confronting our biggest global challenges.
Global Ties KC’s purpose is to develop international relationships and inspire global understanding. For 70 years, Global Ties KC has fostered citizen diplomacy in both Kansas and Missouri, facilitating interactions between international leaders and their American counterparts in Kansas and Western Missouri.
Courtney Brooks has served as the Global Ties KC president and CEO for the last 13 years. She is responsible for connecting U.S. Department of State programs to Kansas and Missouri. Annually, she welcomes visitors from over 100 countries to the Heartland on professional and youth exchange programs. She is passionate about building bridges across cultures, and creating business opportunities for local companies through connections to the 400-plus international visitors who come to KC on Global Ties KC programs each year. Courtney has been to all seven continents and has lived in both Asia and South America. She holds an MBA from UMKC Bloch School of Management in finance and international business as well as a BA from Saint Louis University with a triple major in political science, economics, and international studies.
