Featured speaker: Ron Ruhnke, “Trauma, Overcoming Adversity, and Some Thoughts About Why We Are the Way We Are”

Ron attended a one-room, country grade school in Doniphan County, Kansas. There were 24 students in his high school graduation class. He graduated from Emporia State University (then Kansas State Teachers College) with a BSE, majoring in mathematics and German. He studied a year in Germany on a Fulbright Scholarship, and then taught high school for three years in Salina, Kansas. He received his PhD in counseling psychology from The University of Texas at Austin. He spent a summer at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, and a summer at the United States International University in San Diego. He worked in a residential, drug rehabilitation treatment program in Lincoln, Nebraska. He spent most of his professional life working as a psychologist at Family Guidance Center for Behavioral Healthcare in St. Joseph, Missouri, doing therapy and psychological testing. Ron enjoys reading, being outdoors, gardening, pingpong, dancing and movies.
