Featured speaker: Stan Slaughter, “The Alchemy of Composting, How 2+2=9, If You Let It”
Musician: Roy Baldwin Phillips
Community Moment: Sally Mendon & Julie Maschler
Stan Slaughter brings science and music together in ways that enthrall, educate and inspire students. With a master’s degree in biology, 10 years in the classroom and his rockin’ good guitar, he has traveled the nation for a generation presenting to adults and children, including over 4,000 schools. He’s produced five albums of environmentally themed music, including his bestseller, Rot N’ Roll. He’s recently been focused on reducing food waste and composting, helping to focus our attention on the single largest element of the waste stream. His fame has even crossed the Atlantic Ocean — in April 2016 he spoke in England, invited by HRH Prince Charles himself.
He is currently the Outreach and Education Director for Missouri Organic Recycling in Kansas City, Missouri.
