Helen Austen is President/Co-Founder of the Oasis Network and Executive Director/Founder of Kansas City Oasis. as well as a social entrepreneur, community organizer and national speaker. She holds a master’s degree in Human Services and a graduate certificate in Professional Counseling.
With a vision for an alternative to faith-based community, Helen founded Kansas City Oasis in early 2014. In response to a growing demand for Oasis communities in other cities, Helen co-founded and became the president of The Oasis Network, the affiliate organization that helps to launch and support Oasis communities across North America.
Helen’s non-profit work has been featured in the Atlantic Monthly, Washington Post, the Religious News Service, the Kansas City Star Sunday Magazine, Pitch Weekly, the Kansas Leadership Journal and many more. In 2016, she was invited to be a columnist for the Kansas City Star’s Faith Walk column. Additionally, she has been a return guest on Kansas City’s NPR affiliate show “Central Standard.”
Helen also owns and operates the highest-rated professional organizing company in the Kansas City metro area. You can watch her monthly on NBC’s Kansas City Live as their resident expert organizer. Her organizing work has also been featured on KCTV5, Fox4KC, KMBC Channel 9, NBC Action News 41 and KCMO Talk Radio, and in The Kansas City Star and The Lawrence Journal-World.
