April is National Poetry Month. Poetry speaks to us and to our daily lives in a unique language that humanizes, enriches, and deepens us. The truths in poetry help us navigate, as someone has written, “this broken and beautiful world.”
About the speaker:
Born on a farm in northeastern Kansas, Ron attended Emporia State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education there, with majors in German and mathematics. After graduating from Emporia, he studied at the University of Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany, on a Fulbright Scholarship. He then taught high school in Salina, Kansas, for three years before entering graduate school at The University of Texas at Austin, where he received his Ph.D. in counseling psychology. He has also studied at the University of Oklahoma and at the United States International University in San Diego. He has worked at an alcohol and drug treatment facility in Lincoln, Nebraska. Most of his professional life was spent working as a psychologist and therapist at Family Guidance Center in St. Joseph, Missouri.
